A Rare and Urgent TTTS Diagnosis
At just 12 weeks pregnant, Jackie and Trevor were stunned to learn their identical twins had developed twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), a rare and life-threatening condition that disrupts the blood flow between twins who share a placenta. Without immediate intervention, the outcome for both babies was uncertain.
Turning to CHOP for Help
The couple was quickly referred to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where the team at the Richard D. Wood Jr. Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment confirmed the TTTS diagnosis and recommended a complex fetal surgery. With little time to spare, Jackie underwent fetoscopic laser ablation to correct the imbalance and give both girls a chance to survive.
Two Miracles in the Making
The TTTS surgery was successful, but the journey was far from over. After weeks of careful monitoring and a preterm delivery at 33 weeks, twins Grace and Bridgette were born—and today, they’re thriving. Energetic, joyful, and healthy, their story is one of strength, expert care, and hope.
Discover how CHOP helped this family navigate TTTS and come through one of the most critical moments of their lives.
