Fetal Health Foundation’s Fetal Therapy Think Tank has authored a new white paper establishing environmental and spatial guidelines for the design of fetal care centers. “Recommendations for Facility Design Guidelines – Fetal Care Center” is available through FGI, the nonprofit publisher of the FGI Codes/Guidelines, the most widely recognized standards for the planning and design of health and residential care settings.

Developed by multidisciplinary fetal care experts, the white paper provides practical, research-informed recommendations to guide hospitals and health systems in creating fetal care environments that support optimal outcomes for patients, families, and clinical teams.

The fetal care center design guidelines were developed to help owners and designers of fetal care centers:

  • Optimize space for patient care, procedures, and team collaboration
  • Enhance safety, efficiency, and workflow across the entire facility
  • Elevate patient comfort, privacy, and overall experience
  • Empower clinicians to deliver seamless, high-quality care

“Smart design saves lives and transforms care,” said lead author Travis Leissner, AIA, Principal & Healthcare Market Leader at Hoefer Welker. “Thoughtfully designed fetal care centers create supportive, welcoming environments that benefit families and staff alike—while enabling clinical teams to deliver the highest standard of care.”

The white paper is now available for free download on the FGI website and is intended for healthcare leaders, architects, planners, and clinicians involved in fetal care center development and renovation.
